Ethics Seminar Around twenty five people from clinical and academic departments attended this really enjoyable and practically useful insight on the workings of the ethics committee. The session consisted of a presentation from Michael Bromby in his capacity as a member of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary ethics committee. Michael provided a practical guide to completing the new NRES forms and was helpful in answering specific questions from the floor. The dos and don’ts were clearly spelled out in the session.
The upshot of the afternoon is that none of the attendees will have problems completing the ethics form or gaining ethical approval in future. Well, perhaps not but we will have a better chance now.

Evidence in Practice: a debate. Five clinicians, from very different clinical backgrounds and experience, presented their views on evidence based practice. This provoked some lively discussion between panel members and members of the audience. It was an interesting and thought-provoking event which allowed a greater understanding of some of the issues surrounding evidence.
